chmod Calculator
Convert Unix permissions between octal (755), symbolic (rwxr-xr-x) and a checkbox matrix, apply relative chmod expressions like u+x,g-w, derive the file and directory modes a umask produces, and copy the ready command — entirely in your browser. The URL holds only the mode.

Ready-to-run command
chmod 644 <path>
The matrix, the octal and the symbolic view are one mode: editing any of them updates the others, and the special bits (setuid, setgid, sticky) turn the octal into four digits. The expression applies to the current mode like GNU chmod; the URL state holds only the mode, never the expression.

A process creates files as 666 & ~umask and directories as 777 & ~umask: type a umask (022) to see the creation modes it yields.
